Hello Susan,
Earlier this year, across D.C, Maryland, and Virginia, our Community Coordinators began hearing something alarming: residents of affordable housing were going to be losing access to SNAP and Medicaid. For many families, this meant sudden gaps in food access, healthcare, and financial stability—often with little notice and no clear guidance on what to do next. When residents began raising concerns, Communities Together did what we do best: listening to residents, sharing knowledge, and responding quickly with practical solutions. Within weeks, our team developed Food and Income Resource Guides and shared them across 28 communities, connecting residents to nearby food sources, benefits assistance, income supports, and trusted local partners—so families could find help close to home without delay. This is the kind of behind-the-scenes work that doesn’t always get a spotlight—but makes a real difference. It helps families put food on the table. It reduces stress and confusion. And it helps residents navigate complex systems with confidence. The initiative took time and coordination across our team—and a commitment to do the right thing without waiting for new funding. Your support makes this quick responsiveness possible. It allows Communities Together to act quickly when families face sudden and unexpected barriers, and to do so in partnership with residents themselves. As we close out the year, will you make a gift to help Communities Together continue to respond when communities need us most? |
